Adding an Addon Domain, Subdomain or Parked Domain Print

Most HostingSutra plans let you host more than one website in a single cPanel account.

Addon domain — a second, separate website

  1. Point the new domain’s nameservers at HostingSutra first.
  2. In cPanel, open Domains → Domains (or Addon Domains) and click Create A New Domain.
  3. Enter the domain name. cPanel suggests a document root such as public_html/newdomain.com.
  4. Untick "Share document root" so the new domain gets its own folder.
  5. Click Submit, then upload that site into its own folder.

Subdomain — a section of an existing domain

Open Domains → Subdomains, enter a prefix such as blog, pick the parent domain, and submit. You get blog.yourdomain.com served from its own folder. Subdomains are ideal for staging sites, blogs and client demos.

Parked domain (alias) — a second name for the same site

Open Domains → Aliases and add the domain. Visitors to either name see the same website. Use this for alternative spellings and other extensions of your brand.

Points to remember

  • Every domain you add must have its nameservers or DNS pointed at us, or it will not resolve.
  • SSL is issued per hostname — allow a little time after adding a domain for the certificate to appear.
  • All sites in one cPanel account share the same resource limits and are backed up together.
  • Keep unrelated client sites in separate hosting accounts so a problem with one cannot affect the others.
